Introducing || Zero to Ultra

Good afternoon, Ferals!

I thought I’d just give a quick introduction to this new segment of my blog. Recently I decided to take my love for the mountains to a different level – ultramarathon level to be precise. My friend Siobhan and I will be running the 30-mile BBMC in May, and then hopefully a few longer races that summer (we are currently looking at the Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides 40 miler – remember, that one I couldn’t even finish walking this year?) but we have a LOT of work to do before then.

In a way that I’ve never had to before, my whole lifestyle will have to change; I already eat well, but my nutrition will have to be dialled right in, I will have to stick to a good supplement routine, I will have to be more strict with the things I can carry for a whole ultra without compromising on the essentials and I will have to invest a lot of time into physio sessions and learning how to recover properly. Most people are usually pretty good runners before they decide to up their mileage to ultra distance – but apparently, not us!

So I created this sub-page so I had one universal spot where I can share my antics with you – everything from beautiful running routes (mostly based in and around the Brecon Beacons), to kit reviews, to nutrition, to stretching routines and everything in between – hopefully (touch wood) this will all go relatively smoothly, but the likely hood is that it won’t!

We have just under 10 months to go until our first official race – so, on paper, quite a lot of time, but I am both scared and excited to see what the next few months bring!

So, let’s see how this goes! I look forward to learning and growing with you!

  1. Zero to Ultra…I love that.
    I went from coming back from a long-term injury to running the 82 mile Dales Way this past May. I look forward to seeing your progress and wish you all the best. Good luck!
